Rules Text
A Spirit Vault is magically warded to imprison and exorcise malevolent spirits and other supernatural forces. Haunted portraits, cursed relics, and other eerie curios line the shelves of this dark vault. This facility always counts as Haunted.
Esoteric Knowledge
After spending a Long Rest in your Spirit Vault, you gain one of the following magical Charms:
-
Charm of Exorcism
-
Charm of Malediction
The Charm lasts for 7 days or until you use it. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the Charmās spells (choose each time you gain this Charm).
Research: Ask the Occult
When you issue the Research order to this facility, you or its hireling study the various relics and question the imprisoned entities within your Spirit Vault. This work takes 7 days. At the end of this time, roll 1d6. On a 1, the work is psychically taxing; if you did the research, you take 6d6 Psychic damage, and if the hireling did the research, they immediately die, and this facility canāt be used again until your next Bastion turn. Otherwise, you or the hireling gain information as if you had successfully cast the Contact Other Plane spell. The hireling shares any information they learned with you the next time you speak.
Balance Notes
- Compare this facility against other 13-level facilities before allowing homebrew upgrades.
- Keep the listed Bastion order as the primary action loop; additional benefits should usually be narrative, temporary, or gated by downtime.
- If this facility grants creatures, information, resources, crafted items, or empowerment, keep those outputs tied to Bastion turns rather than free adventuring actions.
