Core Rules Summary
- Bastions are optional player-owned bases of operation introduced in the 2024 Dungeon Masterās Guide.
- A character normally gains a Bastion at level 5.
- A Bastion begins with two basic facilities: one Cramped and one Roomy.
- Special facilities are gained by level, not bought directly.
- Standard Bastion turn cadence is every 7 in-game days, but the DM can slow the cadence to fit campaign pacing.
- If the owner is away and cannot communicate with the Bastion, the Bastion effectively uses the Maintain order.
- Maintain can trigger Bastion events such as attacks, visitors, opportunities, refugees, magical discoveries, or requests for aid.
| Character Level | Total Special Facilities |
|---|---|
| 5 | 2 |

Bastion Orders
| Order | Function | Balance Warning |
|---|---|---|
| Craft | Hirelings craft items the facility can make. | Gate magic items behind formulas, components, time, and cost. |
| Empower | The facility grants a temporary empowerment. | Avoid permanent or stacking buffs. |
| Harvest | Hirelings gather a produced resource. | Limit stockpiles and define expiry/processing. |
| Maintain | The whole Bastion is maintained; other orders are not issued. | Use events as story hooks, not punishment. |
| Recruit | Hirelings recruit creatures, defenders, or specialists. | Defenders should protect the Bastion, not become a free mobile army. |
| Research | Hirelings gather information. | Research should reveal leads, not solve adventures outright. |
| Trade | Hirelings buy/sell goods or services. | Keep passive income modest and exposed to market risk. |
